What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic works on the principle that good spinal alignment and function lead to better health and well being.

Chiropractors specialise in the detection, correction and prevention of spinal disorders( subluxations) and their affects on the nervous system and the body.

A vertebral subluxation results when bones of your spinal column lose their normal motion or position and irritate the nervous system. Subluxations may or may not be painful, however they have the potential to effect your health.

Your nervous systeml is made up of your brain, spinal cord and all attached nerves. It is protected by the skull and the spinal column, and is so important because it controls the function of virtually every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body.

Subluxations are very common and do not always produce pain or other obvious symptoms. A chiropractor is the only registered health professional who has the skill to detect and correct vertebral subluxations in your spine.

Spinal subluxations can be caused in a number of ways.

Physical
e.g. trauma at birth, injuries, incorrect posture.

Chemical
e.g. toxins such as derived from a bad diet, cigarette smoke, hormonal imbalance and drug reactions.

Emotional
e.g. Work stress, relationship stress.

Once subluxations have been corrected your chiropractor will organise an exercise programme and an educational programme concerning spinal health so that you can prevent further subluxation in your spine and maintain good health.

Chiropractic is a way of keeping healthy and being at your best for:
Better sports performance.
Improved flexibility.
Better posture.
Higher resistance to disease.
A more comfortable and energetic lifestyle.
Easier birthing process

What Conditions We Help

Strictly speaking, Chiropractors only treat the subluxation.

Briefly, the subluxation is any joint complex that is not working normally and is subsequently irritating the nervous system and resulting in alteration of the nerve supply. Many different symptom patterns can arise from nerve irritation. By finding and removing the subluxation, Chiropractors can have a positive effect on a wide variety of symptoms.

So, a better question to ask is:

What effect can the removal of nerve interference have on my body?

Chiropractic can provide relief from not only back and neck ailments, but many types of soft tissue injuries such as tendonitis, bursitis and extremity disorders such as ankle, knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand problems.

Patients from our clinic commonly report relief of:
Lower back pain and stiffness
Neck pain, headaches and migraines, dizziness and vertigo
Leg pain (sciatica)
Arm pain, weakness and tingling, sciatica

While we cannot guarantee relief from such conditions, Chiropractic has helped millions of individuals with all sorts of conditions by removing nervous system interference.

Unfortunately, many people are under the misunderstanding that if they have no symptoms then they are well and healthy. Quite simply, pain is a warning that some part of your body is not working as well as it should, many health issues take a long time to come to the point where a symptoms occur.

As Chiropractor's, we look to treat the cause and not just the symptom.

Rotator Cuff Shoulder Problems

The shoulder joint is the most mobile joint in the body, making it an area prone to injury. A very common problem in the shoulder is the Rotator Cuff injury.

It is generally considered that there are two causes of rotator cuff problems. The first is a muscle imbalance due to poor functioning of the rotator cuff tendons themselves. The second cause is impingement, when there is inadequate space for the tendons of the rotator cuff (mainly supraspinatus), which rubs on the underside of the acromion.

Rotator Cuff injuries usually produce a deep throbbing pain on the top and outside of the shoulder and upper arm. The pain is usually worse in certain arm positions, especially lifting the arm up or putting it behind the back. This makes it difficult to drive, change gears, comb hair and even lie on the affected shoulder.

Chiropractic plays a very important role in Rotator Cuff injuries. The nerves from the neck control the muscles involved and the muscles have to be rebalanced to obtain stability. Corrective exercises are also critical for proper strengthening. If you are getting shoulder pain talk to your chiropractor.
